Aluminum and its aluminum alloys
The aluminum materials used in automobiles are mainly aluminum sheets, extruded materials, cast aluminum and forged aluminum. Aluminum sheets were initially used for body hood outer panels, front fenders, roof covers, and later for doors and trunk lids. Other applications are body structures, space frames, outer panels and wheels such as bodywork, air-conditioning, engine blocks, cylinder heads, suspension brackets, seats, etc. In addition, aluminum alloys are also widely used in automotive electrical appliances and wires, and aluminum-based composite materials can also be used in brake pads and some high-performance structural parts.
magnesium alloy
Magnesium alloy is the lightest metal structure material, its density is 1.75~1.90g/cm3. The strength and elastic modulus of magnesium alloy are low, but it has high specific strength and specific stiffness. In the same weight components, the selection of magnesium alloys can make the components obtain higher stiffness. Magnesium alloy has high damping capacity and good shock absorption performance, it can withstand large shock and vibration loads, and is suitable for manufacturing parts that are subjected to shock loads and vibrations. Magnesium alloys have excellent machinability and polishing properties, and are easy to process and form in a hot state.
The melting point of magnesium alloy is lower than that of aluminum alloy, and the die-casting performance is good. The tensile strength of magnesium alloy castings is comparable to that of aluminum alloy castings, generally up to 250MPa, and up to 600MPa or more. Yield strength, elongation and aluminum alloy are also similar. Magnesium alloy also has good corrosion resistance, electromagnetic shielding performance, imitation radiation performance, and can be processed with high precision. Magnesium alloy has good die-casting performance, and the minimum thickness of die-casting parts can reach 0.5mm, which is suitable for the manufacture of various types of die-casting parts of automobiles. The magnesium alloy materials used are mainly cast magnesium alloys, such as AM, AZ, AS series cast magnesium alloys, of which AZ91D is the most used.
Magnesium alloy die castings are suitable for automotive instrument panels, car seat frames, gearbox housings, steering wheel control system components, engine parts, door frames, wheel hubs, brackets, clutch housings and body brackets.
Titanium alloy
Titanium alloy is a new type of structural material, it has excellent comprehensive properties, such as low density, high specific strength and specific fracture toughness, good fatigue strength and crack growth resistance, good low temperature toughness, excellent corrosion resistance, some titanium alloys. The maximum operating temperature is 550°C and is expected to reach 700°C. Therefore, it has been widely used in aviation, aerospace, automobile, shipbuilding and other industries and has developed rapidly.
Titanium alloys are suitable for the manufacture of automobile suspension springs, valve springs and valves. Compared with high-strength steel with a tensile strength of 2100MPa, the use of titanium alloy to make a leaf spring can reduce the dead weight by 20%. Titanium alloys can also be used to manufacture wheels, valve seats, exhaust system parts, and some companies try to use pure titanium plates as body outer panels. Toyota of Japan has developed titanium-based composite materials. The composite material is produced by powder metallurgy with Ti-6A1-4V alloy as matrix and TiB as reinforcement. The composite material has low cost and excellent performance, and has been practically used in engine connecting rods.
