Front axle classification
Modern automobile commonly used axle, according to its support type is different, there are full floating and semi-floating two kinds. (There are also three types, namely full floating, 3/4 floating, semi-floating)
Full floating axle
When working, it only bears torque, and its two ends do not bear any force and bending moment of the half shaft is called the full floating half shaft. The outer flange of the half shaft is bolted to the hub, and the hub is mounted on the half shaft sleeve by two bearings that are further apart. On the structure, the inner end of the full floating half shaft is splined, the outer end is provided with a flange, and a number of holes are provided on the flange. Widely used in commercial vehicles because of reliable work.
3/4 floating axle
In addition to bearing all the torque, but also bear a part of the bending moment. The most prominent structural feature of the 3/4 floating axle is that there is only one bearing at the outer end of the axle, which supports the wheel hub. Due to the poor support stiffness of a bearing, this semi-shaft in addition to bear torque, but also bear the vertical force between the wheel and the road, driving force and lateral force caused by the bending moment. The 3/4 floating axle is rarely used in automobiles.
Semi-floating axle
The semi-floating axle is directly supported on the bearing located in the inner hole of the outer end of the axle housing by a journal near the outer end, and the end of the axle is fixed with a journal and key with a cone surface, or directly connected with the wheel wheel and the brake hub by a flange. Therefore, in addition to the transmission of torque, but also bear the vertical force from the wheel, driving force and lateral force caused by the bending moment. Because of its simple structure, low quality and low cost, the semi-floating axle is used in passenger cars and some co-purpose vehicles.
