Transmission oil cooler working principle.
The working principle of the transmission oil cooler mainly involves the cooling of the oil inside the transmission to ensure that the transmission works within the appropriate temperature range, so as to improve its long-term safe use and reliability. Transmission oil coolers cool the oil inside the transmission by means of water cooling or air cooling. Specifically, the water-cooled oil cooler includes an oil inlet and an oil outlet, the oil inlet and the oil outlet are connected with the transmission oil inlet pipe, and the oil outlet is used to transfer the cooled oil of the water-cooled oil cooler into the box, thus playing the role of cooling the transmission oil temperature. The air cooling is to introduce the hydraulic transmission oil into the oil cooler installed in the front grille upwind for cooling.
In addition, the transmission oil cooler is usually a cooling tube placed in the outlet chamber of the radiator, and the coolant cools the transmission oil flowing through the cooling tube. Oil coolers must be installed on high performance and high power enhanced engines due to high thermal load. The oil cooler is arranged in the lubricating oil road, and its working principle is the same as that of the radiator. Engine oil coolers are divided into two categories: air-cooled and water-cooled. Cars with automatic transmissions must be equipped with transmission oil coolers because the oil in the automatic transmission can overheat. Overheating oil can reduce transmission performance or even cause transmission damage.
Transmission oil cooler system principle
The main principle of the transmission oil cooler system is to use coolant to cool the transmission oil flowing through the cooling pipe to keep the transmission oil within the appropriate temperature range.
The transmission oil cooler system usually consists of a cooling tube that is placed in the outlet chamber of the radiator. In this way, the coolant can exchange heat with the transmission oil flowing through the cooling pipe, thus achieving the cooling of the transmission oil. This design is particularly suitable for high-performance high-power reinforced engines, which generate a lot of heat during operation and require additional cooling measures to prevent the oil from overheating.
In addition, the transmission oil cooler system is equipped with a temperature control valve  to automatically adjust the coolant flow according to changes in oil temperature. When the oil temperature is lower than the initial opening temperature of the temperature control valve, the transmission oil will flow back to the gearbox through the small circulation for internal circulation to rapidly heat up. When the oil temperature is higher than the initial opening temperature of the temperature control valve, the temperature control valve is opened, the small circulation is closed, and the transmission oil directly flows into the oil cooler for cooling, and then flows back to the gearbox. As the oil temperature continues to rise, the opening amount of the thermostat continues to increase until it is fully opened, and the flow rate continues to increase until it reaches the maximum, so as to achieve a gradual increase in cooling and keep the transmission oil temperature at the best working temperature.
This design realizes the control of transmission oil temperature through the temperature control valve, so that the transmission oil temperature can be controlled in the appropriate temperature range, so as to ensure the performance and life of the transmission.
What happens when an oil cooler breaks
If the oil cooler is damaged, the following symptoms will occur:
1, the oil cooler is broken, there will be oil leakage, the oil pressure is high, the radiator temperature is not high, there is oil in the antifreeze, the oil temperature will be high;
2, there will be continuous high temperature, and the system will also issue an alarm that the oil temperature is too high, and the use of vehicles in this case will cause the oil to be unable to effectively lubricate the engine interior;
3, it will cause the internal wear of the engine to increase, greatly reduce the performance of the engine, shorten the service life of the engine, and in serious cases will cause damage to the engine.
The oil cooler is broken, which will cause the oil to be mixed with water, and the water will emulsify the oil after mixing with the oil, which will cause the oil to lose its lubricating protection performance, thus damaging the internal parts of the engine. If the damage is found, it should be repaired immediately.
Under normal circumstances, there will be a blockage or leakage failure, but the oil radiator leakage (damage) or seal damage is more common.
