Oil filter has full flow and shunt type. The full-flow filter is connected in series between the oil pump and the main oil passage, so it can filter all the lubricating oil entering the main oil passage. The shunt cleaner is in parallel with the main oil passage, and only part of the lubricating oil sent by the filter oil pump is filtered.
During the operation of the engine, metal scraps, dust, carbon deposits oxidized at high temperatures, colloidal sediments, and water are constantly mixed with lubricating oil. The role of the oil filter is to filter out these mechanical impurities and glia, keep the lubricating oil clean, and extend its service life. The oil filter should have strong filtration capacity, small flow resistance, long service life and other properties. The general lubrication system is equipped with several filters with different filtration capacity - the collector filter, the coarse filter and the fine filter, respectively in parallel or series in the main oil passage. (The full-flow filter in series with the main oil passage is called, and the lubricating oil is filtered by the filter when the engine is working; Parallel with it is called shunt filter). The coarse filter is connected in series in the main oil passage for full-flow; The fine filter is shunt in parallel in the main oil passage. Modern car engines generally have only a collector filter and a full-flow oil filter. The coarse filter removes impurities in the oil with a particle size of more than 0.05mm, and the fine filter is used to filter out fine impurities with a particle size of more than 0.001mm.
Technical characteristics
● Filter paper: The oil filter has higher requirements for filter paper than the air filter, mainly because the temperature of the oil varies from 0 to 300 degrees, and the concentration of the oil also changes accordingly under the drastic temperature change, which will affect the filter flow of the oil. The filter paper of the high-quality oil filter should be able to filter impurities under severe temperature changes while ensuring sufficient flow.
● Rubber seal ring: The filter seal ring of high-quality oil is made of special rubber to ensure 100% no oil leakage.
● Return suppression valve: Only high-quality oil filters are available. When the engine is turned off, it can prevent the oil filter from drying out; When the engine is reignited, it immediately creates pressure and supplies oil to lubricate the engine. (also known as return valve)
● Relief valve: Only high-quality oil filters are available. When the external temperature drops to a certain value or when the oil filter exceeds the normal service life limit, the relief valve opens under special pressure, allowing the unfiltered oil to flow directly into the engine. Even so, the impurities in the oil will enter the engine together, but the damage is much less than the damage caused by the absence of oil in the engine. Therefore, the relief valve is the key to protect the engine in an emergency. (also known as bypass valve).
How often should the oil filter be changed
The replacement cycle of the oil filter mainly depends on the type of oil used in the vehicle, including mineral oil, semi-synthetic oil and fully synthetic oil, and each type of oil has different replacement recommendations. The following are the detailed replacement cycles and recommendations:
Mineral oil: It is generally recommended to replace the oil filter every 3000-4000 kilometers or half a year.
Semi-synthetic oil: The replacement cycle is generally every 5000-6000 kilometers or half a year to replace the oil filter.
Full synthetic oil: The replacement cycle is relatively long, generally every 8 months or 8000-10000 km to replace the oil filter.

Mineral oil: Change every 5000 km.
Semi-synthetic oil: change every 7500 km.
Fully synthetic oil: Change every 10,000 km.
