During the operation of the engine, metal scraps, dust, carbon deposits oxidized at high temperatures, colloidal sediments, and water are constantly mixed with lubricating oil. The role of the oil filter is to filter out these mechanical impurities and glia, keep the lubricating oil clean, and extend its service life. The oil filter should have strong filtration capacity, small flow resistance, long service life and other properties. The general lubrication system is equipped with several filters with different filtration capacity - the collector filter, the coarse filter and the fine filter, respectively in parallel or series in the main oil passage. (The full-flow filter in series with the main oil passage is called, and the lubricating oil is filtered by the filter when the engine is working; Parallel with it is called shunt filter). The coarse filter is connected in series in the main oil passage for full-flow; The fine filter is shunt in parallel in the main oil passage. Modern car engines generally have only a collector filter and a full-flow oil filter. The coarse filter removes impurities in the oil with a particle size of more than 0.05mm, and the fine filter is used to filter out fine impurities with a particle size of more than 0.001mm.
Under normal circumstances, the various parts of the engine are lubricated by oil to achieve normal work, but the metal debris generated during the operation of the parts, the dust entering, the carbon deposit oxidized at high temperature and some water vapor will continue to be mixed into the oil, the service life of the oil will be reduced for a long time, and the normal operation of the engine may be affected in serious cases.
Therefore, the role of the oil filter is reflected at this time. Simply put, the role of the oil filter is mainly to filter the vast majority of impurities in the oil, keep the oil clean, and extend its normal service life. In addition, the oil filter should also have strong filtration capacity, low flow resistance, long service life and other properties.
How often should the oil filter be changed
The replacement cycle of the oil filter is usually the same as that of the oil, depending on the type of oil used and the driving condition of the vehicle.
For vehicles using fully synthetic oil, the replacement cycle of the oil filter is usually recommended at about 10,000 kilometers.
If you use semi-synthetic oil, then the replacement cycle of the oil filter will be slightly shorter, about 7500 kilometers to replace.
For vehicles using mineral oil, the replacement cycle of the oil filter is usually recommended at about 5000 km.
In addition, if the vehicle's driving environment is harsh, or the quality of the oil is poor, it may be necessary to replace the oil filter in advance to ensure the normal operation of the engine.
