Auto thermostat function
The automobile thermostat is a key component in the automobile cooling system, and its main function is to control the flow path of the engine coolant to ensure that the engine works in a suitable temperature range. Here's how it works:
Regulate coolant circulation
Auto thermostat automatically switches the size cycle according to the coolant temperature:
When the engine temperature is low (below 70°C), the thermostat is closed, and the coolant only circulates in a small way inside the engine, helping the engine heat up quickly.
When the engine temperature reaches the normal working range (above 80°C), the thermostat opens, and the coolant circulates through the radiator for rapid heat dissipation.
Protect the engine
Prevent engine overheating: by regulating the coolant flow, avoid engine damage due to high temperature.
Prevent engine undercooling: in low temperature environments, the thermostat ensures that the engine heats up quickly and reduces the damage to the engine from cold starting.
Improve fuel efficiency
The thermostat promotes full fuel combustion by maintaining the engine at optimal operating temperature, thereby increasing fuel efficiency and reducing harmful emissions.
Extend engine life
By stabilizing the engine temperature, the thermostat reduces wear due to overheating or undercooling and extends the service life of the engine and cooling system.
Energy saving and environmental protection
The thermostat reduces energy waste by optimizing the working efficiency of the cooling system and meets the requirements of energy conservation and environmental protection.
In short, the automobile thermostat is an indispensable part of the automobile cooling system by intelligently regulating the flow of coolant to ensure that the engine can run efficiently and stably under different working conditions.
automobile thermostat is a valve that controls the flow path of the engine coolant. Its main function is to automatically adjust the water into the radiator according to the temperature of the coolant to ensure that the engine works in a proper temperature range. The thermostat usually contains a temperature sensing component that opens or closes the flow of coolant through the principle of thermal expansion and cold contraction, thereby regulating the heat dissipation capacity of the cooling system.
Working principle
There is a temperature sensor inside the thermostat, when the temperature of the coolant is lower than the preset value, the fine paraffin wax in the temperature sensor body will be changed from liquid to solid, and the thermostat valve will automatically close under the action of the spring, interrupting the coolant flow between the engine and the radiator, and promoting the coolant to return to the engine through the pump, executing the local circulation inside the engine. When the coolant temperature exceeds a certain value, the thermostat will automatically open, allowing the coolant to enter the radiator for heat dissipation.
Fault detection method
Check the temperature difference between the upper and lower pipes on the radiator : When the coolant temperature exceeds 110 degrees Celsius, check the temperature difference between the upper and lower pipes on the radiator. If there is a significant temperature difference, the thermostat may be faulty.
Observe changes in water temperature : Use an infrared thermometer to check the thermostat when the engine is starting. When the water temperature is expressed to more than 80 degrees, the outlet temperature should rise significantly, indicating that the thermostat is working normally. If the measured temperature does not change significantly, the thermostat may be faulty and needs to be replaced.
Maintenance and replacement cycle
Under normal circumstances, the car's thermostat needs to be replaced once every 1 to 2 years to ensure that the cooling system works properly. When replacing, you can directly remove the old thermostat, install the new thermostat, and then start the car, rise the temperature to about 70 degrees, and check whether there is a temperature difference in the water pipe of the upper and lower thermostat. If there is no temperature difference, it means normal.
