piston ring installation procedure
Tools : Prepare special tools for installing the piston rings, such as calipers and expanders.
Clean parts : Check that the piston ring and ring groove are clean and keep them clean during installation.

Installing the piston ring : Use the tool to install the piston ring on the piston ring groove, noting the order and orientation. Most engines have three or four piston rings, usually starting with the oil ring at the bottom and then following the gas ring sequence.
Order and orientation of piston rings
gas ring order : usually installed in the order of the third gas ring, the second gas ring and the first gas ring.
gas ring facing : the side marked with letters and numbers should face up, if there is no relevant identification there is no orientation requirement.
oil ring installation : there is no regulation of the oil ring, each piston ring should be staggered 120° during installation.
Piston ring precautions
Keep clean : Keep the piston ring and ring groove clean during installation.
Check the clearance : the piston ring should be installed on the piston, and there should be a certain side clearance along the height of the ring groove.
staggered Angle : Each piston ring opening should be staggered 120° to each other, not against the piston pin hole.
special ring treatment : for example, the chrome plated ring should be installed in the first line, the opening should not be against the direction of the swirl pit on the top of the piston.
The main role of the piston ring
Sealing function : piston ring can maintain the seal between piston and cylinder wall, control air leakage to a minimum, prevent combustion chamber gas leakage to crankcase, while preventing lubricating oil from entering the combustion chamber.
Heat conduction : The piston ring can disperse the high heat generated by combustion to the cylinder wall, and reduce the temperature of the engine through the cooling system.
oil control : the piston ring can appropriately scrape off the oil attached to the cylinder wall, maintain normal fuel consumption, and prevent too much lubricating oil from entering the combustion chamber.
support function : the piston ring moves up and down in the cylinder, and its sliding surface is borne by the ring to prevent the piston from contacting directly with the cylinder and playing a supporting role.
Specific role of different types of piston rings
gas ring : mainly responsible for sealing, to ensure the tightness of the cylinder, prevent gas leakage, and heat transfer to the cylinder liner.
oil ring : mainly responsible for oil control, store a small amount of oil to lubricate the cylinder liner, and remove excess oil to keep the oil film on the cylinder wall.
Types and characteristics of piston rings

The compression ring is mainly used to seal the combustible gas mixture in the combustion chamber, while the oil ring is used to scrape excess oil from the cylinder.
