Test method for fuel pump performance
Some hard faults (such as not working, etc.) of the automobile fuel pump are easy to judge, but some intermittent soft faults are more difficult to judge. In this regard, the performance of the fuel pump can be judged by the method of detecting the working current of the fuel pump with an automobile digital multimeter. The specific method is as follows.
(1) Put the car digital multimeter in the current block, press the function key (SELECT) to adjust to the direct current (DC) block, and then connect the two test pens in series in the connection line of the fuel pump to be tested.
(2) Start the engine, when the fuel pump is working, press the dynamic record key (MAX/MIN) of the car digital multimeter to automatically record the maximum and minimum current when the fuel pump is working. By comparing the detected data with the normal value, the cause of the failure can be determined.
Safety Precautions for Fuel Pump Failure Detection Edit Broadcast
1. Old fuel pump
When troubleshooting fuel pumps for vehicles that have been used for a long time, these fuel pumps should not be dry tested. Because when the fuel pump is removed, there is fuel remaining in the pump casing. During the power-on test, once the brush and the commutator are in poor contact, a spark will ignite the fuel in the pump casing and cause an explosion. The consequences very serious.
2. New fuel pump
The newly replaced fuel pump shall not be dry tested. Because the fuel pump motor is sealed in the pump casing, the heat generated by the power-on during the dry test cannot be dissipated. Once the armature is overheated, the motor will be burned, so the fuel pump must be immersed in fuel for the test.
3. Other aspects
After the fuel pump leaves the fuel tank, the fuel pump should be wiped clean in time, and sparks should be avoided near it, and the safety principle of "wire first, then power on" should be followed.
