Selection Guide

1. The failure modes of half shaft: (1) torsional fatigue fracture; (2) Excessive wear; (3) Excessive deformation.

2. Performance requirements of half shaft: (1) according to the working conditions and failure forms, the half shaft shall have good comprehensive mechanical properties. (2) Hardness: the core is hrc26-32, the surface is hrc50-60, and the depth of the hardened layer quenched by medium frequency quenching on the surface is 6-8mm; (3) Metallographic structure: tempered sorbite + partial troostite on the surface, and about 8% ferrite is allowed in the center.

3. Selection of half shaft materials: according to the working conditions of the half shaft, it can be seen that the half shaft is required to have bending strength, fatigue strength and good toughness. Among them, 45# steel or 40Cr will be selected for the axle shaft of small and medium-sized vehicles, and 40crni, 40CrMnMo and 40MnB materials will be selected for heavy vehicles.

Maintenance

Automobile drive is an important item in automobile maintenance. In the use of automobiles, the validity period of all rubber products and sealing rings is three years, including the half axle ball cage dust boot. Natural aging and cracking will occur in the process of continuous stretching and extrusion. Of course, it will be damaged due to some abnormal conditions. If it is repaired and maintained regularly and checked emphatically, the hidden dangers can be eliminated in time. If the dust cover of the half axle is found to be broken, the dust cover shall be replaced immediately, otherwise the half axle will be implicated in the ball cage of the half axle if the half axle is less than three or five thousand kilometers. As for the damage of its accessories, it can not be simply replaced. For example, the half shaft, as a main part of the drive, is filled with lubricating grease in the dust boot. In case of damage, it will also lead to the splash of lubricating grease. Therefore, when the dust boot is replaced, it must be supplemented with lubricating grease. In addition, if the vehicle runs for a long time, its lubricating grease will naturally deteriorate. After thorough cleaning, its lubricating grease should be updated and standardized maintenance should be carried out regularly, so as to prevent accidents. The materials required for disassembly and replacement include: (1) the inner and outer cage dust covers on both sides. If they are normal aging, they need to be replaced at the same time, especially the outer cage dust cover that has been subjected to large steering angle for a long time; (2) The large quincunx nut for fixing the half shaft is a disposable accessory, but it may also have sliding teeth. In serious cases, it may lead to sliding teeth at the screw mouth of the outer ball cage of the half shaft, and the outer ball cage will also need to be replaced; (3) Grease, weighing about 500g; (4) Fill the axle shaft with grease, and calcium base grease cannot be used in this process; (5) Dust boot clamp; (6) In the process of disassembly and assembly, we must be as careful as possible to maximize the use of the original vehicle accessories, and we must not destroy the brutal disassembly. The half shaft maintenance and disassembly skills directly determine the external cage thread for the disassembly of the knurled nut, and also have a certain impact on the retention degree of the knurled nut itself. Because the knurled nut is located in the locking groove of the fixed thread of the outer ball cage, it is prohibited to loosen it forcibly. At the same time, if the replacement of the oil in the wave box is not considered, the outer sleeve in the wave box needs to be retained on the wave box without taking it out.  After the outer sleeve clip of the inner cage is loosened, the inner cage can be untied, and the samsung wave beads in the inner cage and the dust boot of the inner cage can be taken out.
